Hello Eutierrians!
Life has a way of reminding us that change is inevitable. Recently, we faced one of those unexpected turns—the loss of my job, which had been our household’s sole source of income. It was more than just a paycheck; it was a sense of security, a structure to our days, and a familiar rhythm
This job was more than just work to me; it was something I truly loved. I poured my heart and energy into it, dedicating countless hours to learning, growing, and contributing in meaningful ways. It was a part of my identity, something that gave me pride and purpose. Losing it wasn’t just about financial uncertainty—it was about letting go of something I had invested so much of myself in. The relationships I built, the skills I honed, and the passion I brought to each day are things I will always cherish.
This job was there through many of our family's milestones. I started this job before I married Ryan. It helped us navigate becoming parents to both our kids, providing the stability we needed during those precious and sometimes overwhelming years. It was enough to allow Ryan to become a stay-at-home dad, giving our children the love, attention, and care they deserved every single day. It supported our dreams and enabled us to build the foundation of the life we wanted.
Beyond the financial security and personal fulfillment, I will deeply miss my clients, my staff, and my coworkers. Over the nearly seven years in this role, I have grown in ways I never expected. I have learned patience, resilience, leadership, and a deeper understanding of myself. The experiences and lessons from this job will always be a part of me, shaping how I move forward into this next chapter.
With change comes grief not just for what was, but for what we thought would be. The comfort of predictability, the ease of budgeting, and the certainty of each month’s routine all vanished in a moment. We have felt the weight of that loss, but we refuse to let it define us. Instead, we see this as an opportunity a push toward the life we have always wanted.
Our dream remains steadfast: to build a life where we are deeply connected to the land, to our work, and to the values that guide us. Homesteading has never been a question of ‘if’ but rather ‘when.’ And now, in the face of uncertainty, we choose to step forward with renewed determination.
This change is leading us to rethink our timeline of when big changes will be happening. We had plans in place, expectations of when and how certain steps would unfold, but now we are adjusting. While it may feel like a setback, we choose to view it as a realignment a chance to be more intentional, to ensure that each move we make is well-rooted and sustainable for the long haul.
This shift is not without its challenges. There are moments of doubt, of recalculating what’s possible and reimagining the path ahead. But there is also resilience. There is trust in our ability to adapt, to create, and to cultivate a life that aligns with our deepest beliefs. We have already begun laying the foundation growing our food, tending to our animals, and embracing self-sufficiency. Now, more than ever, we lean into that vision.
We are sharing this journey not just to document our progress but to remind others that change, though daunting, can be the beginning of something beautiful. If you’ve ever found yourself at a crossroads, uncertain of the next step, know that you are not alone. Growth often comes from the moments that challenge us the most.
This is our new chapter. And as always, we walk forward with gratitude, with hope, and with our hands firmly planted in the soil of our dreams.
We will homestead.
